During spring foliage colour is variegations of yellow, predominately concentrated along the leaf margins, on a green leaf. On some leaves the variegations can cover the entire leaf. Autumn colour is orange. Leaves are 5-7 lobed, 5-7cm long and 6-8cm wide. This cutivar will grow best in morning sun or light shade. Sagara-nishiki was mentioned in 1882 but first introduced by the Yokohama Nursery Company, Japan in 1896.
